Preparing Your Home for When You Return from Vacation

Preparing Your Home for When You Return from Vacation

Coming home from a vacation can sometimes give you mixed emotions.  You don’t want to leave the serenity and fun of your vacation, but it also feels nice to be able to sleep in your own bed. Stressful feelings can start to emerge , however, if you know you are going to be entering a cluttered home when open your front door.

When preparing to go on vacation, it is a good idea to keep in mind what you will be leaving behind. Generally speaking, your home is top priority, and it is important to keep it clean and well-organized at all times. But, when you are in the middle of preparing for an upcoming vacation, it’s easy to overlook things and you can end up leaving a bit of disarray behind when you leave. When that happens, however, you end up coming home to a messy and cluttered house, which is the last thing you want after a long, exhausting day of travel.

So, here are a few tips to help you make sure that your home is prepared and ready to welcome you home from your vacation:

  • Take out the trash. You do not want to come home to a full trash can. Not only is it unsanitary, but it can create an unpleasant odor, leaving your whole house smelling bad. Before heading for the airport, take your trash out.
  • Clean out your refrigerator. You don’t need to turn off the fridge when you go on a vacation, but be sure you remove all perishable food items, so they don’t spoil while you’re gone.  If you don’t, you will be met with a bad smell when you open your refrigerator door.
  • Organized clutter. Are there clothes or toys on the floor?  Is your living room filled with scatted books, magazines, or toys?  If you have clutter all over your home, it will not be a pleasant thing to see upon your return. Remove all the clutter and organize your things so, when you come home, you can sit comfortably on your sofa and prop your feet up on the coffee table with ease.
  • Change your bed sheets. The first thing you want to do when you come home is to lay down on your bed and sleep.  Clean sheet m inviting.  So, remove your dirty bed sheets and put new ones on before you leave.  Make sure to make your bed before you head out, so your sheets will remain fresh until you come home.
  • Pay your bills.  Do not leave this important task unaddressed.  Pay your electric and water bills, so everything is fully operating when you come home.
  • Keep your kitchen clean.  This way, you don’t have to come home to dirty dishes, and you can easily cook dinner, even if you are tired, because everything will be clean and easy to access.
