Your bedroom is a safe haven that should feel like no other. After a stressful day at work, you want to be able to relax and rest, and your bedroom should be the perfect place for you to do that. But, what if you feel like your bedroom is too small for you to feel relaxed? What if you feel cramped and suffocated each time you go inside your room?
Having a small bedroom doesn’t mean you have to feel crowded and claustrophobic. All it takes is knowing how to design and decorate in a way that makes it look much larger that it really should be. Here are some ideas that can be used to create the illusion of more space in your small bedroom:
- Paint your bedroom in lighter colors. Darker colors of paint have a tendency to absorb the light and make your room look smaller. The best paint colors to use to make a room look wider are white, ivory, cream, pale pinks, and other neutrals. Using a lighter shade of paint will not just make the room feel bigger and appear more spacious, but it will also give you a feeling of being in a fresher place.
- Use mirrors to give an illusion of space. Mirrors create an impression that a room is bigger than it is because the light bounces throughout the room, and the reflection creates the illusion of more space behind it.
- Get rid of all the clutter. This is the simplest thing you can do to widen the space of your bedroom. Start by getting rid of the things that you do not use every day. Clear the things that crowd around your side table or dresser and put them inside the proper drawers. Keep as much empty floor space as possible to create an illusion of additional space.
- Choose furniture that maximizes wall space. Measure out the amount of wall space that you have. One large painting is much better than a group of small paintings. Choose rectilinear furniture as opposed to curved because curvy furniture tends to occupy more space.
Having a small bedroom can be a challenge, but once you learn how to work with it, it can be a comfortable and relaxing place for you to enjoy.
