A Guide to Buying a Carpet

A Guide to Buying a Carpet

Carpet is a comfortable and fashionable flooring choice for your home. It offers a certain warmth and beauty without being too expensive, making it a popular option for many homeowners.

Choosing the right carpet, however, can be a bit overwhelming because it comes in so many different materials and styles. Here is a carpet buying guide to provide you with the information you need to make the right choice for you:

  1. Consider where you will be placing your carpet. For areas like bedrooms and offices, where there is little foot traffic, consider light colored carpet. Opt for medium shades, such as taupe or dark beige, for areas that receive heavier because they will mask dirt and stains better.
  2. Look for carpets that can last for years. It is important that your carpet be able to withstand wear and tear, so find carpets with firmly twisted fibers. These types of carpet are capable of resisting more abrasion and will last longer, whether they are made from synthetic or natural materials.
  3. Buy the best carpet you can afford. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to buy the most expensive carpet. The price of carpet varies by its height, whether if it is looped or cut, and the method of installation required.
  4. Find a carpet that is visually appealing to you. There is a wide variety of colors, patterns, designs, and shapes to choose from. The style and color you choose will depend a lot on the room’s size and decor.  The darker your carpet, the smaller and more intimate the room will feel.  If you want the room to feel more spacious, it is better to opt for lighter colors. Also think about how long the carpet you have chosen will be in style.
  5. Choose a carpet that can be easily maintained. Level loop carpet is the type of carpet that is the most durable and track resistant. Higher level loop carpet, however can also be easily maintained and offers a look of luxury.  Both carpets are suitable for a lot of foot traffic.

Buying new carpet for your house is not just about picking the right color and style; it is also about making an investment in your home.  So, explore your options and do not rush into buying anything until you find the carpet that is right for you.
