Wallpaper has the capability to transform a room and singlehandedly change its look. It makes the room moore interesting and inviting to your visitors. The challenge, however, is that it can be hard to choose which pattern is right for your particular space. Here are some factors you should consider when deciding upon the right wallpaper.
- Materials. You need a material that is durable and that can last for a long time. Washable wallpapers that are coated with a thin layer of PVC are particularly durable and easy to clean using a damp sponge. Other wallpapers that are textured or metallic have become very popular recently…they can be a bit more difficult from a maintenance perspective, but they are perfectly manageable as long as you clarify the care instructions when you buy them.
- The Room. Consider where you will be using the wallpaper. For living rooms and bedrooms, any type of wallpaper is acceptable. You can choose either vinyl coated or fabric with interesting pattern as long as it suits the rest of your decor. For bathrooms and kitchens, however, you should select a paper that will be easy to maintain and that can stand up to the constant humidity and grime deposits to which it will be exposed. It is advisable to use washable wallpaper because it can be cleaned without damaging it.
- Colors and patterns. It all depends on your personal taste. If you want wallpaper with a more monotone color scheme, explore those with subtle finishes that will add just a hint of visual depth without being overbearing. When it comes to wallpaper with patterns, look for something that will draw plenty of attention, yet still makes the room feel comfortable and not chaotic.
- How many rolls you will need. Measure the area and then calculate an additional 20-25% to cover cuts and scraps. It is always better to buy a little more than you need than to run out of materials halfway through your project.
